According to a market research conducted by Neomar Consulting in the field of roofing systems, the market is expected to grow with 40% in 2007 compared with 2006. Thus, the market of roof covers is estimated to exceed 130 million Euros in 2007.
The growth rates were estimated based on the growth predictions declared by the roof systems suppliers interviewed by Neomar Consulting. In 2006, the roof systems sales reached the total value of 93 million Euros.
The roofing system market is dominated by the Metal Tiles
Also though the metal tile is a relatively new material, its ascension has been spectacular. In only 2 years, 2005 and 2006 the market witnessed at 6 new production facilities of metal tiles and the forecast for 2007 are quite similar.
Similar to 2005, in 2006 the metal tiles market has registered the highest growth, holding approximately half of the entire roofing systems market. This high growth rate is expected to maintain for the next years.
In 2006, 61% of the entire market consisted of metal tiles, 19% concrete tiles, 13% bituminous shingles and only 7% ceramic tiles.
Three regions totalized half of the tiles sold, by surface
Most of the tiles are sold in the center region of Romania, Bucharest, north-west and south. Every type of roof covers counts on specific regions, based on the clients’ buying behavior and climate conditions. Therefore, 3 regions totalized half of the sold tiles surface: Center (19%), Bucharest (16%) and Nord-West (16%).
The market continues to be segmented…
According to Neomar Consulting, there are approximately 50 suppliers in the roofing systems market. Among them, 40% are relatively small companies which cover a local or regional market. Most of the small companies are activating in the field of concrete tiles and metal tiles, mostly because of the relatively accesible costs of production equipments. Only 3 companies beat the 10% barrier of the market share, and only five of them have market shares between 5% and 10%.
…but the competition is getting tighter
Given the fact that in 2005 and 2006 new players had entered the market, Neomar Consulting estimate the competition will become tighter in 2007. The new players aim for higher growth rates that the ones estimated by using more attractive marketing policies. Most of the companies questioned in the research have increased their marketing budgets, in some cases the surplus being over 100.000 Euros, and intensified their actions to promote their products, especially by participating to the fairs and expositions and by advertising in press.
The distribution channels are specialized based on the roof cover type
Especially in the case of concrete tiles and ceramic tiles there are many local suppliers which are selling directly to the customers. Nevertheless, the national known suppliers are using especially the building materials warehouses and the big distribution companies. The metal tiles are a special case, due to the need of specialized fitters.
